Before runners take part in a half marathon, they typically spend months training vigorously. That’s why it has to be very frustrating to get beat by a dog when the big day finally arrives!
A dog just accidentally took part in the Elkmont Trackless Train Half Marathon in Canada, and she ended up coming in seventh place! Ludivine is a two-and-a-half-year-old Bloodhound who was let out to use the bathroom when she noticed the runners running by. Transfixed by them, Ludivine just had to take part in the race herself!

Ludivine went offtrack numerous times during the race, even stopping to play with a herd of cows and sniff a dead rabbit at the two-mile point. However, these distractions did not stop her from coming in seventh!
Once the race was done, Ludivine was given a medal for her efforts, and her owner April Hamlin could not have been more surprised!
“My first reaction was that I was embarrassed and worried that she had possibly gotten in the way of the other runners,” April said. “She’s laid back and friendly, so I can’t believe she ran the whole half marathon because she’s actually really lazy.”

Maybe Ludivine was just being lazy because she was conserving her energy for the race!
“Every time I thought she had dropped off to go back home, I would hear her coming back up to me and she would race past me up to the two leaders,” said Jim Clemens, who narrowly beat Ludivine and came in fourth. “She would run off to romp through the streams and into yards to sniff around for a while.”

For a “lazy” dog, Ludivine ran an outstanding race. Hope she continues with her newfound hobby!
