Marjorie Zarbaugh’s mother had always wanted a granddaughter, and a shopping trip from back in 2011 is having her family thinking now that she was always meant to have one.
On September 9, 2011, Marjorie’s mother bought a “First Impressions” dress at Macy’s hoping that she could one day give it to a granddaughter. For seven years, she held onto the dress until she learned in 2018 that she was finally going to become a grandma!
During Marjorie’s gender reveal party in May of 2018, her mother gave her the dress as a gift. She even included the receipt that had the date circled along with a note that read, “Look how long I’ve had this? :)”
“I thought it was cool so I kept the tags on it,” Marjorie said.

Four months later, Marjorie gave birth to a baby girl named Madelynn, finally fulfilling her mother’s wish to have a granddaughter. Last week, Marjorie was going through baby clothes when she came upon the dress her mother had given her. When she glanced at the receipt again, she was stunned to see that her mother had bought the dress on Madelynn’s birthday, seven years before she was born! It really was meant to be!
“How do you explain that! Tears, happy tears,” Marjorie wrote on Facebook of the moment she saw the date.
Marjorie is glad that she did not throw the receipt away, saying “had I done that we would have never known. It was meant to be.”
A mother’s intuition definitely proved to be right in this story and we’re happy that Marjorie’s mother finally have the special grandchild that she’s been yearning for all these years!
