Prince Philip, 97, was involved in a car accident on Thursday when he flipped his Land Rover while driving near the royal family’s Sandringham estate at around 2:45pm.
The accident occurred on a 60mph A-road and involved a Kia that was carrying a nine-month-old baby, its mother, 28, and another woman, 45, who suffered a broken arm and an injured knee. Thankfully, the child was unharmed.
Philip was pulled from his flipped vehicle by bystander Roy Warne, who said that the husband of Queen Elizabeth told police officers that he had been “dazed by the sun” when the crash occurred.
Norfolk Police said that they are treating this like any other car accident. Officers gave Philip and the driver of the Kia breathalyzer tests, which they both passed.
“The incident will be investigated and any appropriate action taken,” a spokesman for the police force said.
Royal expert Ingrid Seward said that the Queen is likely “very annoyed” with her husband, pointing out that Philip’s son Prince Charles recently said that he was “always worried” about his father’s determination to keep driving in his 90s.

Warne, the man who pulled Philip from the wreckage, said that he saw the royal’s car “tumbling across the road.” He added that Philip was “conscious” but “very shaken and shocked” when he was pulled from the car and that he was screaming, “My legs! Where should I put my legs?”
“He [Philip] wasn’t rude. He was very shaken and he went and asked: ‘Is everyone else alright?’ He’s a very brave man. He didn’t make a big fuss about it,” Warne said. “He is lucky to be alive. I saw the Duke’s car careering, tumbling across the road – it ended up on the other side, having rolled right over. It was an astonishing escape for everyone. People could have been killed. The impact was enormous.”
We’re glad that nobody was hurt in this accident, and we hope that Philip is able to move on from this incident quickly!
