Emily Clarke recently took to Facebook to thank a Queensland trucker who took the time to make sure that she and her boyfriend Jay made it through a heavy storm safely. She was then stunned when her post quickly went viral!

Emily and Jay were driving on Bruce Highway in Australia when they found themselves trapped in the worst storm either of them had ever seen. Things got so bad that water was flooding both sides of the highway, and the couple feared that they would not be able to safely drive any further. By the time they realized how dangerous the situation was, they were already on the road with virtually no visibility.

“We noticed the truck moving over to the left and I asked Jay, ‘Do you think he is pushing the excess water off the road for us?’” Emily wrote.

Emily said that there was such little visibility that she could only see the brake lights from the truck directly in front of her. Since she could not safely pull over, she stayed tucked behind the larger vehicle as the trucker guided her down the highway.

Emily continued following the truck until he pulled off the road and parked at a restaurant. Jay immediately got out of the car and thanked the trucker, and he learned that his name was Footie and that he was from Melbourne.

Emily recounted that Footie told them, “I could see more than you, and if you were my family, I would only hope that another truck driver would do that for them.” Emily and Jay thanked Footie profusely, offering to buy him a drink for his kindness.

“To all the Footies out there on the road, looking out for us during this crazy weather and especially at this time of the year when the roads are the busiest, we know you have a job to do, but we appreciate you!” Emily wrote.

Emily was stunned when her post thanking Footie was shared 10,000 times and liked more than 33,000 times. Eventually, Footie himself saw the post and responded!

“Well, that’s very unexpected,” Footie wrote. “I’ve been contacted by plenty of people today about a young family that said some very nice things about my conduct as a driver in some pretty terrible conditions in North Queensland yesterday. Without sounding like a total knob, thanks to everyone, including my beautiful family, friends and strangers that have commented. I am absolutely gobsmacked by the interest. It’s nothing I wouldn’t think that any trucker wouldn’t do to try and keep people as safe as possible. Special thanks for the kind words, Clarke family. Merry Christmas to all and a safe and Happy New Year.”

We need more people like Footie in the world!
