Photos of a unique breed of cats is going viral this week, and internet users everywhere are hailing them as the cutest thing ever!
The Selkirk Rex breed dates back to 1987, when a feral cat in Montana gave birth to five kittens. The breeders noticed immediately that one of the kittens had a distinctly thicker coat of thick curly fur, and it was soon revealed that this was the result of a spontaneous genetic mutation which made curly hair a dominant trait.

Unlike her relatives in the breeds of Devon Rex and Cornish Rex, this cat had a significantly thicker coat of three layers of fur.
Internet users cannot get enough of this breed of cat!

The Selkirk Rex has since become officially recognized by The International Cat Association, the American Cat Fanciers Association and Cat Fanciers’ Association. Some people like to call them poodle cats, while others described them as the “cat in sheep’s clothing.”
