Fans of former NFL star and current pro baseball player Tim Tebow are ecstatic this week after he announced that he is engaged to his girlfriend, Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.

“Thank you for saying YES and making me the happiest man in the world. You’re the love of my life, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you,” Tim wrote on Instagram.

Tim revealed that he proposed to Demi-Leigh at sunset on January 9 at his family’s farm outside of Jacksonville, Florida. Tim dropped to his knee next to a bench he’d had made and engraved with the date the two had first met, and he then surprised Demi-Leigh with a serenade by South African singer Matthew Mole.

Tim also flew in her family and close friends from South Africa to Florida to watch the engagement and celebrate with them after.

“I actually wasn’t really nervous,” Tim said. “I was excited. I wanted everything to be perfect and to go smoothly. But I wasn’t nervous to actually ask her.”

“I’m so excited for the wedding, and I can’t wait to spend forever with Tim,” Demi-Leigh added.

Tim had previously said that marriage was important to him, and that he needed a wife who understood his strong Christian faith.

“I don’t want to be single; I’m ready to settle down and start a family. I want to have kids. I have so many things I want. No one will be happier than me when I finally find the right person,” Tim said in 2017. “They have to really love God. My faith is important to me — it’s the most important thing — and I need to be with someone who also shares that faith.”

We’re glad Tim found the woman he was looking for, and we wish him and Demi-Leigh many years of happiness!
