John Lopez Jr. is a 19 year-old Walmart employee from Texas who dutifully set aside every penny he made working at the store for his college fund. Recently, however, he dipped into the money that he made there to help out a customer who clearly needed it.
John was working his register when a woman came through with a ton of groceries, and after he rang her items up, he noticed that she was in tears. She had realized that she did not have enough money to pay for her groceries, and she promptly went into panic mode.
John immediately knew that he had to do something.
“I just felt in my heart that the Lord told me I had to help her,” he recounted.
“OK, I got you… I got you,” John told her.
Without hesitating, John paid the full $110 grocery bill out of his own pocket. Laci Smith was standing in line behind the woman, and she was so touched by what she saw happening that she snapped a photo and posted it on social media, where it quickly went viral.
Since then, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for John’s college education!
“This year I’d like to keep the Christmas spirit alive by giving back to this young man,” the person who made the page wrote. “The comments that I’ve seen about this gentleman is extraordinary. He touches a lot of lives on a daily basis. I’d like to give back to him for constantly giving himself to our community. He is also trying to save money to put himself into college. Let’s come together as a community and pay John’s tuition. He will do big things!”
