The cereal brand Kellogg’s is tired of seeing their food go to waste, so they have come up with an ingenious way to use their rejected cornflakes that has people everywhere applauding them!

Kellogg’s has just released their “Throw Away IPA,” which is being brewed with 70% wheat and 30% corn flakes that were too small, big, or undercooked to make it into stores from their manufacturing locations in the United Kingdom. A portion of the sales from the IPA will be donated to Fareshare, a charity that provides food for the poor.

Each Throw Away IPA brew uses around 132 pounds (60 kilograms) of rejected cornflakes, and since they started brewing this beer earlier in 2018, Kellogg’s said that they have reduced their UK-based food waste by 12.5%.

“Kellogg’s is always exploring different and sustainable ways to reduce food waste in its factories. So it is great to be involved in such a fun initiative with a local supplier,” said Kate Prince, corporate social responsibility manager for Kellogg’s UK. “Kellogg’s is working hard to eliminate food waste in our manufacturing processes and give our consumers the wholesome products they love with minimum impact on the planet.”

Beer experts have praised the IPA, saying that it tastes sweeter than the usual IPA and that it maintains the famous golden color of its breakfast cereal ingredients.

We waste so much food in the world every day so it’s nice to see a company finding a clever and fun way to reduce food waste. I will definitely be checking out this beer myself!
