At Frenchy’s Chicken restaurant in Houston, Wednesday nights are always the busiest. The popular restaurant serves up a special on their fried chicken dinners on Wednesdays, making it the most popular day of the week for the restaurant. But it wasn’t the chicken on this particular Wednesday that got everyone’s attention.
As one woman waited patiently with her granddaughter in the long line, it became obvious to the manager and others at the restaurant that something wasn’t quite right. When it became her turn in line, she asked to speak to the manager privately.
The story she told the manager, Ahmed Elmadhoun, was heart-breaking. She explained that her granddaughter was hungry, but she couldn’t afford to buy any groceries or gas for her car until the next day when she was planning on getting her tax refund. She asked if she could leave her driver’s license and social security cards with him as collateral for a meal and that she’d come back the next day and pay for the food.

Emadhoun wasn’t willing to let the woman do her part of the deal though. After talking to the woman, he found out she had eight more grandchildren at home, and they weren’t going to eat that night either.
The store manager stunned restaurant patrons when he gave the woman and her granddaughter both full meals, and then went to the kitchen to prepare more food for her to take home to her other grandchildren. He fixed and paid for all the meals out of his own pocket.
The kind gestures didn’t stop there either. Emadhoun informed the woman that she was welcome to come there anytime she was hungry, even with all of her grandkids, and he would feed them.

When patrons at the restaurant realized what was going on, they decided to keep the kindness coming. They pitched in together and made sure the woman had gas for her car as well.
All it takes is one gesture to start a chain of events that can truly bless someone and make their day. This woman isn’t likely to forget the kindness of those strangers any time soon.
