Greg Bishop has been a beloved member of the community of Floyd County, Texas for decades because of his willingness to help others. That’s why when Greg found himself suffering from the debilitating effects of chemotherapy after a cancer diagnosis, his neighbors rushed in to help him when he needed it most.

Greg is a farmer who was too sick to tend to his 450 acre crop during the harvest this year. His doctor told him that he needed to remain indoors because his immune system was too weak, so his friends and neighbors jumped in to harvest his entire crop for free! In fact, so many people showed up wanting to help that some had to be turned away!

It took just five hours for the volunteers to process 1,200 bales of cotton worth $420,000, a task that would have taken Greg weeks to complete himself.

“He’s a very good Christian man. Just a good-hearted man. He’s very humble. He’s just the best person,” explained volunteer Aaron Hendricks, general manager of Floydada Co-Op Gins.

Greg was overcome with emotion when he saw what his friends and neighbors did for him.

“He was just overwhelmed by what everybody did,” Aaron said. “He was in tears; He couldn’t thank us enough for what we did.”

Greg can now focus on preparing for more treatment and getting a bone marrow treatment in the upcoming months. His community has also established a fund to help pay for his medical bills!

God bless this community for taking the time to help a farmer in need!
