Minnesota police officers are calling on the public for help identifying the thieves who were caught on camera stealing a Salvation Army donation bin outside of Cub Foods last Tuesday at 2.30pm.

The incident occurred outside of Cub Foods in Blaine, and it is not known how much money was in the collection bin when it was taken.

“Right away when it was referred to us was, we realized we have a Grinch out there- two Grinches,” said Police Chief Brian Podany. “That someone would do that, it’s the principle – regardless of how much was in the kettle at the time. Why would someone do this to people? It’s just disappointing.”

Surveillance footage shows two men who are clearly trying to hide their faces approach the donation bin. One of the men proceeds to use bolt cutters to remove the bin while the other stands watch. Their faces were caught on camera as was their car, which looks like a grey or silver SUV. The thieves are facing felony possession of theft tools and damage to property charges if they are caught.

Major Robert Doliber with the Salvation Army said that it’s uncommon for donation bins to be stolen, but in this particular case, the bell ringer did not show up for his schedules shift before the theft occurred.

“I think they need to think about the people they are stealing from and just have a heart and put a stop to it, turn yourself in,” he said.
