Curiosity Inc. if a family owned and operated store in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada that sells unique collectable items.

The shop is owned by Alexander Archbold, and some of the collectables that were sold there come from a homeless man named Adam, who comes to the store after dumpster diving to see if Alexander wants to purchase anything he found.

“It’s not unusual to have people walk in my store with treasures they have for sale,” Alexander said. “I’ve seen him [Adam] through the store many times before, so he’s always a welcome sight.”

He noticed that on this day, Adam was carrying an old plastic bag full of the trinkets that he had found.

“One piece that kind of stood out was a picture of Bambi, in what was a dirty broken frame,” Alexander said. “It’s the scene where Bambi is just born and meeting his forest friends … It’s an iconic part of the movie.”

Alexander bought the picture for $20, figuring that he could sell it for $100 tops, but it wasn’t until later that he realized just how special it was.

“I took it out of the old frame and when I flipped it over, it had a really old certificate of authenticity. It had a copyright date of 1937 on it,” Alexander said. “I wrote a gallery in the U.S. that had one, and they were asking $3,500 for theirs.”

“That’s when I knew that I way underpaid,” he continued. “So I vowed that whatever I would get, I would give [Adam] half [the money].”

Alexander ended up selling the picture on eBay, where it was auctioned off for $3,700 CAD ($2,780 USD). He then went about trying to find Adam, which proved to be no easy task.

“Getting him the money was difficult because he has no home and no phone number,” Alexander explained. “I took it upon myself to drive around town for a period of two weeks every single morning before work to try and find him.”

Alexander finally did track down Adam, who broke down in tears when he was given his $1,700 share.

Alexander then made a GoFundMe for Adam with the goal of raising $10,000, but they have since far surpassed that by raising over $17,000 for him!

“I’m still kind of pinching myself,” Adam said. “It doesn’t seem real to me. It’s awesome to know people are out there that care and that are kind.”
