The Heerlein family from Austin, Texas decided to put a spin on their Christmas decorations this year by recreating a scene from the classic movie National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
The scene they chose to recreate involves the character of Clark Griswold attempting to hang string lights on the outside of his home and falling off the roof, forcing him to hang on to the siding.

The family was stunned when their decoration was so realistic that someone actually thought someone was in danger and called the police! Military veteran Alfred Norwood Jr. was passing the home when he noticed the dangling figure, and he immediately thought it was a real person who needed help. The family security camera captured Alfred frantically trying to help as he called 911.
“Oh mister, please hold on!” Alfred can be heard saying.

“He was doing everything he could to get the ladder! And be like ‘Save Clark!’” said the Heerlein’s sister-in-law Leah Wheless. “He didn’t give up. Whatever he had to do, he was going to save old Clark Griswold.”
“I was trying to get him down any way I can. Except when I started talking to him, he never said nothing!” Alfred said afterwards. “Then I thought, ‘Oh my God I hope he’s not dead, lemme call 9-1-1.'”
The Heerleins ended up thanking Alfred for his kindness by giving him a $500 gift card. They have also since put a sign up at the bottom of the ladder letting passersby know that the man is not real!
