Some people have the mistaken notion that pit bulls are mean, aggressive, and can’t be trusted. But one little pit bull named Chunkie is doing her part to tear down those misconceptions. Chunkie was found by firefighter Mike Thawley from Fire Station 14 in Sacramento, California. She was tied up outside in the pouring rain and no one wanted to claim her.
That’s when Mike decided to rescue her and take her to Front Street Animal Shelter to get her the care and love that she needed and deserved. She was treated for mange and other treatments, but never lost her good spirits. She thrived on the attention from the staff, and enjoyed being dressed up in warm sweaters to protect her fragile skin as she was being treated. But there was one person that she had already started to bond with.

When Mike returned to the shelter to check up on Chunkie, she couldn’t have been more happy to see him. It was clear that she remembered him from her rescue and already missed seeing him. Her reaction to his return is absolutely priceless and Mike clearly thinks a lot of her too. He’s been talking to his family about fostering Chunkie and taking him home with her.
Followers that have been keeping tabs on Chunkie’s story are keeping their fingers crossed that she will soon have a loving home and be with Mike and his family.
