Steve Irwin, most commonly referred to as “The Crocodile Hunter” died unexpectedly in 2006 while doing what he loved most. He was spending time in nature observing animals.
He left behind two small children who grew up learning to love wildlife alongside their father. His son, Robert, was just two-years-old when his father passed away, but he still had time to learn how passionate his father was about wildlife.
Now Robert has developed his own passion for the animals and nature. He has his own television show on Australia Zoo TV and has even appeared on multiple other programs. Robert has also expanded his love of nature into photography. He recently was the runner up in the in the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the year contest in the junior division, and it is easy to see why.
He’s earning accolades all over with his stunning wildlife photos. The photos show that he is obviously as comfortable around these exotic animals as his father was. Check out these amazing photographs to see why his pics are winning awards.
1. If you’ve ever tried to capture a photo of a bird in flight, you know how hard it is. The crystal clear flying photo of this kite was taken in Lamington National Park in southeast Queensland, Australia.

2. Roberts photography skills go under water too. You can even buy a greeting card at the Australia Zoo gift shop that features this octopus.

3. This beautiful male lion doesn’t have to work hard to prove that he’s the king of the jungle. We’re hoping that the drips of water on his chin are from getting a drink and not drooling because he’s about to have Robert as a snack during his visit to the Ponodoro Game Lodge in South Africa.

4. No matter how big or small the animal, Robert loves them all. It’s hard to tell in this photo whether this South African lioness is ferocious or adorable!

5. The Crocodile Hunter taught us that koalas can be fatal if you startle them. But luckily, these guys are pretty chill as long as you don’t sneak up on them and give them a fright. Robert was even impressed by what he called his “blue steel smoulder.”

6. During an expedition at Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort in Australia Robert nabbed this shot of a green turtle. The turtle doesn’t look nearly as impressed with Robert as we are of the turtle though.

7. This photo was taken in honor of Nature Photography Day and features a northern scrub python. Although some of us might think this photo is the stuff of nightmares, you have to admit that the up close of the forked tongue is something you don’t get to see every day.

8. Birds come in a variety of colors, but one of the most beautiful might just be the peacock. This peacock appears to have posed for his closeup in Southern France, not to mention the stunning view behind him.

9. Robert doesn’t just photograph wildlife. He likes to take photos of scenery, buildings, and people too. In this photo, he captures the beauty of the Glass House Mountains located along the Sunshine Coast of Australia. This photo was used by the Premier of Queensland for her 2016 Christmas card.

10. This photograph is dark, but stunning as it features the bright red pop of fireworks lighting up the skyline in Australia.

With the beauty of the above photos, it is clear to see how much Robert loves nature and why his photos are winning awards. Be sure to share these remarkable photos with your family and friends.
