Joanna Gaines of the HGTV show “Fixer Upper” has always been a proud Christian woman. Recently, her 8 year-old daughter Emmie taught her a lesson about faith that left her stunned.
It all started when Joanna walked into her daughter’s bathroom one day only to see that the little girl had written on the counter in purple marker. While this would have made many parents angry, what Emma had written got her thinking.
“Walked into Emmie’s bathroom this morning and my heart stopped for a second when I thought she had sharpied all over her vanity,” Joanna recalled.
Emmie had written, “Hi God what are you doing?”
Thankfully, Emmie used an erasable marker, but most parents would have lost it before they realized it. Joanna, however, took some advice from James 1:19:
“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry”
“And then I took a moment and really read what she wrote and thought, ‘Well that isn’t the worst thing to be permanent,'” Joanna added. “I stared at her question and loved the thought of it and that that’s how she talks to God. May her faith always stay childlike and may I remember what she seems to already know. That God is the most relational and the most kind, and always near.”
Joanna’s post has quickly gone viral, touching the hearts of people all over the world.
“Thank you, Emmie, for the wonderful lesson to all of us. God is always at our shoulder waiting for us,” one social media user wrote, with another adding. “What a great message for us all in this day. You know she put a smile on God’s face.”
