Ever since Meghan Markle announced that she was expecting her first child last month, royal fans everywhere have been scanning her photos to get a peak at her baby bump. This week, Meghan finally gave her fans a peak of her pregnant stomach when she stepped out on the red carpet at the Royal Variety Performance!
Meghan appeared on the red carpet wearing a gorgeous Safiyaa gown that included an embroidered sequin floral pattern, trim waistband, and thin, spaghetti halter strap. Meghan completed her outfit with beautiful diamond earrings as well as a sparkling black box clutch purse.
The Royal Variety Performance has been happening ever since 1912, when King George V and Queen Mary went to the Royal Palace Theatre in London to attend it. At the time, the performance aimed to benefit the Variety Artistes’ Benevolent Fund. The performance took place again in 1919, and since then, have become an annual event.
This comes as Meghan is preparing to have her first Christmas as an official member of the royal family. Her mother Doria Ragland will be spending Christmas with the royal family as well, and she will join Meghan in taking part in a royal tradition that involves them being weighed in after eating the traditional turkey dinner.
Royal expert Ingrid Seward explained that Queen Elizabeth asks each of her guests to “weigh themselves” using a pair of antique scales when they first arrive at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk for the Christmas period. They are reportedly weighed to make sure that they are “well fed” in a tradition that dates back to King Edward VII’s reign in the early 1900s.
We hope that Meghan enjoys her holiday season with the royal family, and that her pregnancy continues to run smoothly!
