Fans of the 1950s British pop trio The Beverley Sisters are in mourning this week after the death of Babs Beverley, who passed away at the age of 91 after a battle with cancer.
The Beverley Sisters scored numerous hits in their hay day, including “Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,” “Little Drummer Boy” and “How Much Is That Doggy In The Window?” Babs’ death was confirmed by her agent, Johnny Mans, who said that she died on October 28.
Mans said that The Beverley Sisters were “the forerunners of the Spice Girls and Little Mix and girl power” and “our answer to the Andrews Sisters.”
“She had been at a care home in Brighton for a while and had cancer for five-and-a-half years but she still looked gorgeous,” he said of Babs. “To me they were all wonderful girls, exceptional personalities, really bubbly and always smiling.”
“The legend of the Beverley Sisters will go on forever. I will miss her as a friend and agent,” Mans continued. “We used to go to a lot of functions together and they were unique. Even if they were late, they would make an entrance.”
The group consisted of Babs, her twin sister Teddie, and their older sister Joy, who passed away three years ago. Like Babs, Joy was 91 when she died.
Tributes have been pouring in for Babs on social media.
“Sad to see death aged 91 of Babs Beverley of the Beverley Sisters for so many years residents of Whetstone ever Professional and fabulous entertainer,” one fan wrote. “Only Teddy left now…”
Rest in peace, Babs Beverley!
