An unusual friendship between a dog and a rat is going viral this week, as it’s stealing the hearts of people all over the world!

Meet Osiris, a 3-year-old Dutch Shepherd who is best friends with a 3 month-old rat named Riff! Their friendship began after Osiris’ owners rescued Riff when he was only 4 weeks-old. The family nursed the baby rat, who had not even opened his eyes yet, with a syringe to get him healthy again.

Nobody expected a dog and a rat to become best friends, but that’s exactly what ended up happening here!

The two bonded quickly because Osiris was also rescued. Abandoned in a parking lot when he was a puppy, he was rescued by his owners and nursed back to health just like Riff later was. He has since been trained as a therapy dog and has been helping people who need it ever since.

The family was afraid that Osiris and Riff would not get along at first, but the animals quickly put their fears to rest! They’re so close that Osiris even lets Riff crawl into his mouth and clean his teeth for him.

“Riff Ratt really likes licking the inside of Osiris’ mouth,” their owner said. “I’m sure you all are wondering if we’re afraid Osiris will eat Riff – NOPE! Osiris has helped foster and care for dozens of animals and he is the gentlest dog I’ve ever met.”

Osiris and Riff do everything together. They play together, cuddle together, and explore the world together! We think their friendship is adorable, and we hope they enjoy many years together to come! Watch them play together in the video below!
