As Nick Norwood was preparing to take the traditional wedding photos before his 2017 wedding, he should have been in the middle of the happiest time of his life. Instead, he found himself grieving over the fact that he would never be able to have the traditional mother-son dance, as his beloved mom Dorothy had passed away the year before.

Nick’s fiancé Shyanne could see how much he was struggling with this, so she decided to surprise him by doing something to let him know that his mother would always be a part of their lives. She listened carefully as Nick told her why this was so hard for him.

“All I could think about is how I wished my mom could be a part of it somehow,” he said. “I would think about how happy she would be seeing me marry the love of my life. It felt like emotions I was dealing with initially after her death were all coming back full circle.”

On the morning of her wedding, Shyanne teamed up with her own mother to give Nick a surprise he never saw coming. After blindfolding him, the women took Nick on a little field trip, and he had no idea what their destination was.

When they finally arrived and took Nick’s blindfold off, the first thing he saw was Shyanne in her wedding dress.

“As my eyes started to focus, I had a big smile on my face as I examined my fiancé and gave her a big hug and kiss,” he said “During these few seconds of our first look, I figured we were in just some random field somewhere. I was just so focused on my fiancé at the time.”

As his eyes adjusted, he realized that they were standing next to the grave of his mother, and he burst into tears.

“As my eyes made contact with my mom’s gravestone, I remember my fiancée telling me she wanted my mom to be a part of our big day,” he said. “She comforted me as I embraced the moment. I remember feeling her presence that day. I know she was looking down on us, smiling.”

Nick felt his mother’s presence for the rest of the day thanks to Shyanne’s surprise. What a loving gesture Shyanne displayed to honor Nick’s mother. We wish Nick and Shyanne the best of luck in their life together!
