As an urban explorer, Bob Thissen is used to finding treasures in unusual places. Recently, however, he came upon one of his best finds ever when he found an abandoned property deep in the woods of central France.

Bob was stunned when he stumbled upon a breathtakingly gorgeous 12-bedroom manor! As he approached the front door, he was expecting that it would be barren on the inside. Instead, when he opened the door, he was shocked to find that the manor was frozen in time from decades earlier! In fact, the home looked like the owner had just stepped out and would be back at any moment.

Aside from a few 21st century conveniences like a flatscreen television, the home looked like something out of a history book. The cupboards were full of old dishes, historic newspapers were on the table, and the piano was even uncovered!

“Normally abandoned buildings degrade very fast because they get looted and vandalized,” Bob said. “It was a miracle to see almost nothing was changed.”

Bob believes the home was abandoned sometime around 2009, and that it was so well preserved because of it’s remote location.

“I guess elderly people lived here and died or moved to a senior home,” he said. “They probably don’t have any children or heirs, or the heirs don’t know what to do with the giant villa. It’s more a burden to live in big old buildings these days because of the high maintenance costs.”
