Millions of Americans headed to the polls to vote on Election Day yesterday. While many people went through a lot just to be able to cast a vote, Sosha Adelstein can top nearly all of the difficult voting stories with what she did on Election Day in 2016.

On November 8, 2016, a heavily pregnant Sosha awoke to find herself having contractions. Knowing that she was going into labor, Sosha knew that she needed to get to the hospital, but she had one pit stop she wanted to make first. Sosha was so desperate to cast a vote in the election that she had her husband Max Brandel drive her to the local polling place in Boulder, Colorado before they headed to the hospital!

“We ran over there and kind of made it just in time,” Sosha recalled. Just minutes after she cast her vote, she could feel her baby coming.

“Shortly after that I was like OK it’s time — we got to get to the hospital,” she added. “Everything was totally worth it.”

At the hospital, Sosha gave birth to a healthy baby girl named Bella Rose. This week, Sosha had a major message for Americans everywhere heading into this election.

“Every single one of your votes matter, more important now than ever before. Go vote,” she said.

Voting isn’t always the most fun thing to do, so many people come up with excuses as to why they can’t do it. However, if this new mom could vote while she’s in labor, anyone can!
