Officials say that the mountain goats at Olympic National Park in Washington are so thirsty for human urine and sweat that they have wreaked havoc on the area. Things have gotten so bad that they have had to airlift the goats out of the park to keep them away from areas where humans are.

“Mountain goats can be a nuisance along trails and around wilderness campsites where they persistently seek salt and minerals from human urine, packs and sweat on clothing,” the park’s “mountain goat management plan” states. “They often paw and dig areas on the ground where hikers have urinated or disposed of cooking wastewater.”

The goats have been in the area for nearly a century, but they have only started causing serious problems in recent years. Back in 2010, a hiker was killed in the park by a goat who had stalked him for over an hour. The hiker bled to death after being attacked by the animal.

A staggering 375 goats are being airlifted out of the park to the forests of the North Cascades. On top of that, 275-325 will be killed in the next few years in an effort to lower the population.

“So far, they all seem to be doing well,” said forestry spokesman Colton Whitworth. “It should be a fairly easy transition.”

Who knew that mountain goats could cause so many problems?!
