A young man in Michigan just showed the world how truly honest and good-hearted young people can be when he did the right thing to help his aunt win a hefty lottery jackpot.

A woman from Alpena County explained to lottery officials that she was visiting family in another part of the state when she decided to buy some lottery tickets. She ended up forgetting them when she returned to her house. When her nephew found the tickets and scratched them, he realized that his aunt had won the $300,000 prize from a Poker Multiplier instant ticket. While he easily could have claimed that he had bought the ticket and kept it as his own, he decided to do something different.

“He called me back and told me it was a $300,000 winner. Of course, I didn’t believe him because our whole family is full of jokesters,” the winner said. “He sent me a photo of the ticket, and I was floored when I saw he was telling me the truth!”

The winner, whose name has not been released, went on to say that she will make sure that her nephew is rewarded for his honesty.

“I asked him to keep the ticket safe for me until we could meet here so I could get my money,” she said. “I’m going to buy myself a new car, help out my family — including my nephew — and then save the remainder.”

In the end, the winner is just happy that this win will give her the opportunity to help her family.

“Winning is a bit nerve-racking, but I’m so fortunate I won because it means my family will be a little more comfortable now,” the winner said.
