An elderly woman has stolen the hearts of Internet users all over the world after a post went viral discussing how she has left her nursing home every day for a decade to feed the homeless cats that live in the area.

Each day, the woman leaves her senior citizen home to feed the cats in a nearby park in San Jose, California. Rita Rama and her family have noticed her doing this each day, and Rita eventually decided to approach her to hear her story. She was so touched by it that she took to Facebook to share it with the world.

“Every Saturday our family heads to a park in San Jose,” Rita wrote. “We always notice an older woman who walks towards the side of the park with her walker with bags and bottles. She parks her walker in the corner and lays out some paper plates and pours some cat food and water. While she does this a community of homeless cats come from all corners and begins to eat. She watches them, pets them, and then goes back home to a senior center next door. Today, my daughter and I watched quietly from afar. We finally had a chance to meet this kind woman.”

“Her name is Evan,” she continued. “She has lived at the senior center for 10 years. She feeds the community cats every day, rain or shine. These cats have been left behind by her neighbors. She tries to have them neutered and find homes for them.”

“Evan says: ‘I’ve done this for 10 years. I was raised to follow through with commitments, including those to our pets.’ Currently there are 14 cats under her care and she is worried for them as some are still not fixed and she struggles with finding homes,” Rita concluded.

Evan agreed to let Rita share her story after she explained that it could help her find home for the 14 cats she feeds. A veterinary assistant in the area saw the post and volunteered to help.

“I live in San Jose and I’m currently working at an animal hospital while going to school for my RVT licensing, if someone can put me in contact with her I know a couple people including myself who would LOVE to help her out!”

Many others have offered to donate or help Evan out in her quest to feed these animals in any way they can.

“I’d love to donate food to her so she doesn’t have to spend her own money. Any idea how I can get it to her?” one user wrote, another adding, “How do we sponsor to spay or neuter one of these cats? We would like to sponsor asap! I would like to pay the vet or clinic directly.”

God bless Evan for devoting her time to helping these cats every day!
