The United States was rocked by yet another mass shooting last Saturday when a gunman walked into a synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and opened fire, killing 11 people. He possibly would have been able to kill more people, were it not for the heroic efforts of the Pittsburgh police.
Officers with the Pittsburgh Police Department rushed to the scene immediately after calls about the gunman came in. When officers arrived there, the gunman turned his attention from those in the synagogue to the cops, opening fire on them. The six heroic cops who were injured in this shooting have been identified as John Persin, Michael Smigda, Tyler Pashel, Dan Mead, Tim Matson, and Anthony Burke.

Persin, Smigda, and Pashel were all treated and released from the hospital the same day of the shooting. The other three, however, remain in the hospital at this time.
Matson, a member of the SWAT team, was shot multiple times.

“When bullets are flying, and people’s lives are in danger, Tim Matson is the guy you want going through the door,” said Cmdr. Jason Lando. “He’s the guy who goes in and calmly gets the job done.”
The eleven victim killed inside the synagogue have been identified as Joyce Fienberg, 75, Richard Gottfried, 65, Jerry Rabinowitz, 66, Cecil Rosenthal, 59, David Rosenthal, 54, Bernice Simon, 84, Sylvan Simon, 86, Daniel Stein, 71, Melvin Wax, 88, Rose Mallinger, 97, (pictured) and 69-year-old Irving Younger.

“These senseless acts of violence are not who we are as Americans,” said Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf. “My thoughts right now are focused on the victims, their families and making sure law enforcement has every resource they need.”
Please keep all those who were affected by this senseless tragedy in your thoughts and prayers!
