According to statistics there are some 65,000 homeless veterans across the United States and that number is continually growing. Even more veterans, some one million, are estimated to live in poverty.

With those statistics, it’s easy to see why those that fought to protect our freedom are in need of some of the most dramatic help available, and one Florida shelter is working to do their part.

The Clara White Mission in the LaVilla neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida, hopes to build 10 to 20 tiny houses to help provide shelter for several homeless vets in the area as well as their families.

The mission is hoping to get help with funding the project from donations and the homes will be built with the help of the U.S. Green Building Council of Florida and Eco Relics.

The homes will be less than 200 square feet and could take as little as $4,000 to build. They also hope to educate the veterans that will live in them about green living and hope to train them in building additional homes.
