A disturbing new report has just come out revealing that a herbicide that causes cancer was found in 26 different breakfast cereals and snack bars.

After testing 28 products, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) found Glyphosate in 26 of them in levels “higher than what EWG scientists consider protective of children’s health.”

Glyphosate is the main ingredient of Monsanto’s Roundup, which is the most frequently used herbicide in the U.S.

“The tests detected glyphosate in all 28 samples of products made with conventionally grown oats. All but two of the 28 samples had levels of glyphosate above EWG’s health benchmark,” said the researchers behind the study.

Quaker released brief statement claiming that their products are still safe to eat.

“EWG report artificially creates a ‘safe level’ for glyphosate that is detached from those that have been established by responsible regulatory bodies in an effort to grab headlines,” the company said.

Some experts have agreed with this, but they’ve also warned that it’s important to be mindful of what is in the foods that we eat.

“I don’t think that people should become hysterical,” explained Sarah Evans, an assistant professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. “But people need to be really aware of where their food is coming from and what’s getting into their foods.”
