Many of us take simply being able to walk and dance for granted. For Roy Palmer, however, being able to do these simple things is something that he will always appreciate. That’s because Roy spent ten years confined to a wheelchair due to multiple sclerosis.

Roy was resigned to being wheelchair-bound forever until he heard about an experimental stem cell therapy called HSCT (hematopoietic stem cell transplantation). Though the treatment is considered risky, the 49-year-old father went to his doctor in Gloucester, England and begged for it.

Immediately after he was given the treatment, Roy knew that it worked when he felt a cramp in his leg. This was the first time in a decade that he had felt anything in his leg, and the sensation caused him to burst into tears!

These days, Roy has complete control of his legs once again, and his favorite thing to do is to get up and dance with his wife.

“I’ve been given a second chance at life and I started volunteering at my local police station,” he said. “We went on holiday not so long ago to Turkey and I walked on the beach. Little things like that, people do not realize what it means to me.”

Roy’s story serves as a reminder that we should all appreciate the simple things in life! He will certainly never take being able to dance for granted again!
