A terrifying video that is spreading like wildfire on social media showing the moment a man in Canada was forced to shoot a grizzly bear dead.
It all started when a mother bear and her three cubs wandered onto the property of Lawrence Michalchuk in Bella Coola, British Columbia, Canada. The caption of the video states that Lawrence had just returned home with his wife after visiting her parents when he came upon the bears.
At first, Lawrence fired a few warning shots to try and scare the bears away.
“It’s basically just to shoot in the air to make noise to scare them away,” he recounted.
Though the cubs ran away, the mother grizzly stayed put, so Lawrence started yelling at her to try and “keep her moving.”
“As soon as I did that she just put her ears down and head back and came [at me] full blast,” he said.
Lawrence was left with no choice but to open fire, and he ended up hitting the mother bear in the leg.
“Thank God it worked because it tripped her,” Lawrence recalled. “All I wanted to do is trip her. I dove in the door as quick as I could and I slammed the door and then she turned back towards her cubs.”
Afterwards, wildlife officials told Lawrence that he was right to shoot the bear.
“That bear was not gonna leave,” he said. “It probably worked out good because the bear’s alive and I’m alive.”
