The best type of oil to use for this is a citrus-based oil like lemongrass, which will fight bacteria. You can also use stronger oils like tea tree, mint and neem to keep insects away. It’s especially good to use these stronger oils when you leave your trash outdoors.

This trick works best when you put the cotton ball at the bottom of your trash can under the liner. You should also replace the cotton ball once a week.

This is just one of many hacks that can be useful in helping your trash smell better. Other hacks include throwing a dryer sheet into your trash can and placing kitty litter at the bottom of the can. You can also sprinkle baking soda at the bottom of your trash can to make it smell better!
