Kolbie Sanders is a 24 year-old student from Tyler, Texas who made the difficult decision to end her engagement just one week before she was set to tie the knot. Though she had the opportunity to save her wedding venue for a later date, she decided to do something much more generous with it.
Kolbie selflessly decided to donate her $3,500 wedding package to any couple who would be willing to get married within the week.
“With my engagement ending, I’ve come to find tremendous peace in knowing that I did the right thing for the both of us,” she wrote in a Facebook post. “With that being said, now I want to do the right thing by others and let some good come out of this decision.”
Kolbie took to social media to ask people to nominate couples who they thought deserved a free wedding. Her post immediately went viral, and a makeup artist, a hair stylist, and a photographer all offered to help out with the wedding free of charge. Bakeries donated food and pastries, and flowers and other decorations were sent in as well!
Kolbie poured threw hundreds of nominations and picked out the best names. She then put these names in a bowl and drew out the name Haley Hipsher. Haley was nominated because her grandfather was recently diagnosed with stage four cancer, and he wanted to see her walk down the aisle. She was overjoyed when she learned that she had been chosen!
Kolbie was happy to make this young woman’s dream come true, but she was also ecstatic to see all the support people from all over the country gave to her post.
“If there is one thing I’ve taken from this entire experience, it’s this: no matter what, always choose others even when it’s easier to choose yourself,” Kolbie said. “This world keeps spinning and becomes a more beautiful place when you take the time to love on your neighbors and put their needs above yours, even if that seems like the harder thing to do.”
