A rare piebald fawn with a white face has stolen the hearts of people all over the world after he nearly died when his mother rejected him.

The fawn’s mother, also a piebald, rejected him after birth and nearly stomped him to death. Luckily for this fawn, he was born at Deer Tracks Junction, a wildlife sanctuary and petting zoo in Cedar Springs, Michigan, north of Grand Rapids. Caretakers were able to nurse him back to health, and he has since become a star attraction at the facility because of his unique look and charming personality!

Hilary Powell, the owner of the farm, has become the fawn’s surrogate mother. She nursed him with a bottle four times a day. Piebalds have a series of genetic traits that can give them hearing and vision impairments, so he required extra care from Powell, which she lovingly gave him.

Powell’s son named the fawn “Dragon” because he wanted a manly name for him. As a piebald, Dragon would grow unusual pink antlers when he gets older, making him stand out even more. This would make it impossible for him to hide in the wild because he would not be able to hide from predators.

Sadly, Dragon had a weak immune system for most of his life, and he had to be treated at the farm’s intensive care unit. The Powell family eventually shared the tragic news that Dragon had passed away before his first birthday.

While it’s incredibly sad that Dragon died so young, we’re glad that he was able to experience love and happiness for the brief time he was alive. Check out a video of Dragon frolicking on the farm below.
