Sometimes you can’t help but move to the beat when your favorite song comes on. That’s how one little girl felt. She wanted to be able to dance so badly, but her little body just wouldn’t cooperate. That’s when the L.A. Fire Department stepped in and busted a move for her.

Finley Smallwood was born several weeks premature and suffers from cerebral palsy as a result of her early birth. When Finley saw Ellen DeGeneres dancing on her daytime television show, she wanted nothing more than to be able to dance. Unfortunately, due to her disability, little Finley can barely walk with the assistance of a walker, let alone dance.

Her adoptive parents, Christina and Josh, love Finley so much that they decided to try to do whatever it took to make her dreams come true. They started a “Dare to Dance” challenge in hopes of raising enough money to pay for a surgery that might give Finley the ability to dance on her own, just like she watched Ellen do.

The “Dare to Dance” challenge caught the attention of the firemen at the Los Angeles Fire Department. Although these tough guys are more used to running towards burning buildings to save a life than busting out their favorite dance moves, they decided to accept Finley’s challenge and bring awareness, and hopefully money, to her cause.

The department chose the Meghan Trainor song “I Feel Better When I’m Dancin'” and the men of the department can be seen in the video showing their favorite dance moves. Some of them dance while doing every day chores like polishing the fire truck while others simply showed off their impressive dance moves. One ambitious fire man even dons full gear for his best attempt at the robot.

The video’s grand finale shows the entire crew dancing on top of the fire truck outside the station while little Finley and her mom Christina make an appearance too. It’s obvious from the smile on Finley’s face that she’s having the time of her life, even if she’s not on top of the truck dancing herself.

With enough people dancing to to the challenge, Finley’s family raised the funds for her to have her surgery. Unfortunately, doctors feared that even with the costly surgery and stem cell treatments, Finley’s prognosis wouldn’t be good. They believed that Finley still would never walk on her own, let alone dance.

Doctor’s aren’t always right, however, and Finley had the surgery they believed wouldn’t help her. The surgery was a huge success! Although she has several surgeries still ahead of her, doctors now believe that Finley will be walking, and even dancing, on her own in no time at all.
