It’s almost time for Halloween, but there’s a new trend for this year. Instead of Halloween, the more appropriate name might just be Hula-ween!

If you haven’t seen the latest trend, it is time for you to meet Jack-o’-Lantern’s cool brother-in-law, Pineapple Jack-o’-Lantern. His tropical toothy grin adds quite a twist to traditional Halloween decor.

While some people think that it would be perfectly fine for pineapples to take over the holiday, other say they prefer a good old fashioned pumpkin on their porch. Besides, who wants a pineapple latte instead of pumpkin spice?

But if you are wanting to get in on the trend, here are a few tips to help you give a tropical twist to your Halloween decor.

First of all, you will need a corer to remove the inside of the pineapple. It’s a $10 gadget that makes cutting it up much easier. Be sure not to push too deeply into the pineapple or the corer will cut a hole in the bottom too.

Another rule, keep it simple. Once the fruit has been removed, use a marker to draw eyes and mouth on the surface. Intricate designs are difficult due to the bumpy outer shell, so a simple design is best.

Carving kits are available that have thin blades, but as long as the knife you use is sharp, it should be pretty simple. After you cut out your design, insert a lit candle and make your design shine!
