Two Australian ambulance workers went out of their way to show kindness and compassion to a dying man so that he could have the last meal that he wanted the most.

Ron McCartney had been fighting pancreatic cancer for 17 years. He was set to be taken to palliative care earlier this month, but his wife Sharon was forced to call for a medical escort when Ron’s health took a turn for the worse.

When Queensland paramedics arrived, they found that the 72-year-old had not eaten for several days. So they asked him, “If you could eat anything, what would it be?” He replied, “A caramel sundae.”

So detouring from their regular route to the hospital, the two paramedics stopped and bought McCartney the sweet treat before heading on to the hospital. Sharon expressed her appreciation for the gesture after the pair posted a photo of McCartney with his sundae.

Kate and Hanna, the paramedics, say they were simply doing the part of patient care that is the most important – the caring. What an amazing story! Be sure to share this heartwarming story with your family and friends. We need more paramedics like these ladies!
