Over one million people evacuated North Carolina last week due to Hurricane Florence. But in their dash to safety, many were forced to leave their beloved pets behind.
That’s where the U.S. Coast Guard comes in. One crew managed to save 14 dogs from the flood waters when Hurricane Florence stuck. Those rescued included 10 beagles and four pit bulls.
Josephine Horne, owner of the beagles, was relieved to know her precious pets had been rescued. Her trailer was nearly under water when the Coast Guard rescued her and her husband, Jackie.

As the couple climbed aboard the boat to safety, the dogs could be heard yelping and crying in their flooded cages. Some were trying to climb up the sides of the cage and others were swimming.
Another boat pulled up and Coast Guard member Mitchell Moretti rushed to save the beagles. Some of the dogs, however, didn’t understand that they were being rescued and jumped out of the boat back into the water.

Luckily, all ended up being saved as well as four pit bulls from a neighbor’s home. Thank goodness for people like these who know the importance of our pets. Be sure to share this heroic story with your family and friends.
