There’s nothing more beautiful than seeing strangers reach out to help a family in need in their community.
Back in May, Brent and Nicole Keryluke, age 35 and 34, were killed in a tragic accident when their motorcycle collided with a truck in Red Deer, Alberta. This left their two children, 6-year-old Arielle and 3 year-old Liam, as orphans without parents.
The two children went to live with their grandparents, Ben and Marilyn Keryluke, who stepped up to raise the kids despite their grief over losing their son and daughter-in-law. Given their advanced age, Ben and Marilyn never planned to be raising children again, so money was very tight.
Before their deaths, Brent and Nicole had been fixing up a vintage car which they would then give their son on his 18th birthday. Given the circumstances, this was no longer a priority, so Ben and Marilyn decided to auction off the car to raise money for Arielle and Liam’s future.

Ben and Marilyn headed to the Electric Garage Auctions along with their grandchildren and the 1973 Pontiac Parisienne. During the 10 minute auction, the auctioneer explained why the family was there, leaving many of the people in the room in tears.
Many people bid on the classic car, which was clearly very popular, but the family was stunned by what ended up happening.

Rod McWilliams from Red Deer Motors was the first to win the auction, but as soon as he won, he shocked the family by donating the car back to the auction! After it was auctioned off again, Danny Fayad from Edmonton won the car, and he also donated it back to the auction. Once this happened, Bob Bevins from Bulldog Metals won the third auction of the Pontiac.
“He didn’t want to be recognized for it,” said Lyndsay Payne, co-owner of EG Auctions. “He just went up to Ben personally after the auction and said, ‘You know what? I want your family to have that car so I’m giving it back to you.'”

The family ended up walking away with $100,000, and the car that they can now give to Liam on his 18th birthday, just as his parents had planned!
This shows just how powerful the kindness of strangers can be! Watch the auction yourself in the video below!
