Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson became very close after they both married into the British royal family at young ages. Though Diana was married to Prince Charles and Sarah was married to Prince Andrew, both women quickly became disillusioned by life in the royal family.

It has just been revealed that Diana and Sarah fantasized about escaping the royal family to the point where they had a code word for their escape. This code word was Tregunter Road, which was the Chelsea address of Diana’s former lover Oliver Hoare.

Reporter Richard Kay recalled, “Tregunter Road was our code for escape,’ she once told me, ‘it meant our leap for freedom.'”

“By then, however, her love for Hoare had subsided, but her wish for a life outside the Royal Family had not,” he continued. “It has always been said that Diana lost her nerve for that double break-out with Fergie from behind palace walls. And that when Fergie’s split from Prince Andrew was announced, the princess – whose marital unhappiness was the greater of the two women – quietly changed her mind.”

Diana began her affair with Oliver, a top art dealer who was friends with Charles, after her father Earl Spencer died in 1992. She became so obsessed with Oliver that she once told her close friend Lady Bowker that she “daydreamed of living in Italy with the handsome Hoare.”

Oliver ended the affair in 1993 after his wife threatened to divorce him. Diana went on to get divorced from Charles in 1996, one year before her tragic and untimely death in a car accident.
