Though many of us would like to think that we would be able to think fast enough to stop a dangerous situation happening before our eyes, the truth is the vast majority of people freeze up when they are put in a situation like the one below.

That’s what makes the actions of 25 year-old gas station employee Manveer Komer so incredible.

Komer was working late one night at a Philadelphia gas station when he noticed a man and woman who were acting strangely walk into the store. Komer’s gut told him that something was off about the pair, so he kept an eye on them as they walked around.

Komer quickly noticed that the woman was shaking, and when the man used her credit card to buy cigarettes, the employee realized she was not there by choice. When the man started trying to leave with the woman, Komer knew he had to act fast. Putting his own life at risk, he bravely told the woman, “You come [stand] behind my back. I’ll help you. No problem.”

Though he had no idea what was going on with the pair, Komer’s words let the woman know that he was willing to protect her. By the way they both responded, Komer knew he had made the right decision. Pretending he had a gun in his pocket, Komer then walked right up to the man.

Komer demanded that the man give the woman her credit card and car keys back, but he refused. Komer was sure the man would attack him, but instead, the man got scared and fled in the woman’s car. What the kidnapper didn’t know was that the car had the woman’s cellphone in it, so police were able to track him quickly and arrest him.

It turns out that the man had carjacked the woman, who is a doctor, earlier in the day and was taking her around to different stores and ATMs to get as much money out of her as he could. The woman was petrified, as she was sure the man was going to kill her once he had the money that he wanted.

Komer’s quick thinking is what saved this woman’s life. Check out surveillance video of what he did below, and SHARE this story so we can spread the word about this hero! We need more good people like him in this world!
