Some of the best moments in life are the simplest ones. No matter how small they are, they can sometimes end up showing us how beautiful life really is.
One of these precious moments just happened at the Oregon Zoo when a small butterfly found it’s way inside and caught the eye of a curious seal. Thankfully, the moment was captured on camera so that the whole world could enjoy it!
Kaya is a harbor seal who spends her days swimming around at the zoo. She’s used to seeing pretty much the same thing every day, so when she saw the butterfly for the first time, her interest was immediately peaked!
Seal keepers captured the moment when Kaya saw the butterfly for the first time and shared it on Facebook. Kaya’s face is priceless when she sees the butterfly, as she looks like a small child seeing something for the very first time.

As the butterfly flutters around, Kaya follows it with her entire body, twisting back and forth in the water as if she is doing some kind of dance! Be sure to watch for the :42 second mark, when it looks like Kaya appears to be waving to the butterfly!
While it’s a bit sad to think about the fact that Kaya is swimming in this enclosure rather than roaming free, we’re glad to see that she has not lost her sense of curiosity and wonder in there. Seals are known for being social creatures who love making friends, and it is clear that Kaya made a new one this day!
