Like most new moms, an orangutan named Clara was ecstatic when she gave birth to a baby girl named Clarita. Clara could not wait to give little Clarita all of the love that she needs.
Sadly, just minutes after Clarita was born, the unthinkable happened. A dominant male orangutan swooped in out of nowhere and snatched Clarita away before running off as fast as he could. Needless to say, Clara was devastated.

Staffers at the park where these orangutans live were eventually able to find Clarita. However, they were worried about how Clara would react to being reunited with the daughter she had lost. They were worried that Clarita’s new scent would throw Clara off, and that she would not recognize the baby whom she adored.
Though rescuers were nervous about what would happen, they ended up deciding that it was important to try and reunite them. The video below shows a staffer cautiously approach Clara as she holds Clarita. She then hoists Clarita up to the gate, showing Clara that the baby she had lost had been found.

What happened next left even the most seasoned rescue workers stunned as they quickly realized that they had nothing to worry about! After being reintroduced to Clarita, Clara motioned to the staffer to hand the baby over. Her motherly instincts immediately took over, and Clara made it clear that she wanted to start making up for lost time with her daughter!
We’re so glad that this story had a happy ending! Check out the emotional reunion in the video below!
