It’s been 21 years since Princess Diana was killed in a car crash on August 31, 1997. On the anniversary of her death, Diana’s close friend Rosa Monckton took to social media to remember her dear friend with a photo of the royal that the public had never seen before.

The photo shows Diana exuberantly laughing. She clearly does not have a care in the world as she hangs out in a white sweatshirt and track pants.
“Diana as I remember her,” Rosa wrote. “Not enough is written about her sense of fun and zest for life. Friend and wonderful godmother to Domenica. RIP.”

Diana and Rosa were incredibly close friend who would often go on vacation together. Diana was even the godmother to Rosa’s daughter, Domenica, who was born with Down’s syndrome. Rosa was one of the very last people to see Diana alive before her untimely death.
Many other tributes poured in for Diana on Friday from those who loved her:
Today marks 21 years since the tragic loss of Princess Diana. She did so much to challenge perceptions of HIV and tackle stigma through her kindness and compassion, her hugs and hand holding.
