Cheerleaders are one of the highlights of every sporting event, right behind the game itself. Desiree Andrews is a middle school cheerleader for her school’s basketball team, but there’s something that makes her a little more special than the average cheerleader.
Desiree has Down’s Syndrome, but that doesn’t keep her from cheering her heart out. So when fans started making fun of her, three basketball players took it into their own hands to do something about it.
Scooter Terrien, Miles Rodriguez, and Chase Vasquez heard the bullying in the crowd and walked off the court while the game was still in play. They went directly to their sports director and asked him to stop the bullying.

Several people, including Desiree’s father, Cliff Andrews, noticed the boys and couldn’t stop the tears from falling. The basketball players now have an amazing relationship with Desiree. They’ve even nicknamed the gym “D’s House.”
School administrators say that school spirit has increased since the boys’ display of kindness. They say they sent a message about not just bullying, but about the acceptance of everyone.
