A 2010 interview with Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has just reemerged in which she opens up about her 1996 divorce from Prince Andrew like she never has before.

Sarah said that cracks began to form in her marriage from the time she tied the knot with Andrew in 1986, explaining that her husband’s royal duties and his job as a naval officer took over.

“My deal was that I was marrying my man, who happened to be a prince and a naval officer,” Sarah said. “But what I got was not the man, I got the palace and didn’t get him.. and the courtiers told me I had to go to Buckingham Palace and he had to go to sea. For our marriage, I saw him 40 days a year.”

Sarah, who still lives with Andrew, admitted that they both feel like they would do things differently if they could go back in time.

“Both Andrew and I… both of us say now if we could go back we would definitely play it differently and we should have learnt how to play the chess game differently at 23,” Sarah said. “And maybe we have still been together because we would have said ‘no ‘to being separated just after our wedding.”

Despite everything that happened, Sarah said she has no regrets about marrying him.

“I think the love I had for him then, is the love I still have for him now,” she said. “I still married the best and he’s the greatest gentleman that I know.”

“Why aren’t we married?” Sarah asked with a laugh. “Everybody says well then surely it should be the happy ever after ending? But we are the happy ever after, it’s just not about marriage. It’s more about this extraordinary friendship we have. Andrew and I, we have a love which is unfathomable, it’s so great and the two girls love it.”

Rumors have swirled for years that Sarah and Andrew may someday remarry. Do you think they will? Let us know in the comments section, and SHARE this story so your friends and family can see this as well!
