A 10 year-old Virginia girl’s love for dolls ended up saving the life of her newborn cousin after her aunt unexpectedly went into labor in the bathroom last week.

Chloe Carrion was alone with her pregnant 21 year-old aunt in a Fairfax County home when the older woman said she did not feel well. It was only when she was in the bathroom with stomach pains when she realized that she was actually in labor.

“She screamed my name and she says, ‘I had a baby.’ And I said, ‘No you didn’t,’ and she said, ‘Yes I did,’” Chloe said. The aunt had been hiding her pregnancy from her family.

Chloe ran into the bathroom only to find that her aunt had given birth while sitting on the toilet. She handed her baby boy to Chloe before she lost consciousness.

Chloe called her mother April West, who did not believe her daughter at first when she described what happened. It was only when the little girl showed her mother the newborn on FaceTime that she realized what happened.

“She turned the phone around because we were on FaceTime, and on the camera I saw this little face,” April recalled.

As she waited for emergency crews to arrive, Chloe used the skills she had honed with her baby dolls to take care of her newborn cousin. She explained that she learned most of these mothering skills by studying YouTube videos.

“The videos helped me with swaddling and cleaning him up from everything,” Chloe said.

Chloe was even able to cut the baby’s umbilical cord using a pair of household scissors as 911 dispatchers walked her through it.

April arrived right before emergency crews, and she was stunned by how well Chloe had the situation under control.

“Chloe was just standing at the front door with the baby swaddled, and she was rocking him back and forth,” she said.

The baby, who has been named Isaac, was rushed to the hospital with his mother, and they are both doing well.

“I’m very proud of her. She was so brave,” April added. “Even as an adult, I don’t think I could have done what she did.”
