While planning your dream wedding may seem like something out of a fairy tale, it can cost a small fortune. Now, recent studies show that there may be another reason besides cash why you might want to consider going a little cheaper when planning your nuptials.
A recent study reveals that certain characteristics will increase the odds that a couple get divorced. The study evaluated 3,000 married people and discovered that the price of the wedding and engagement ring can play a role in the longevity of the marriage.
Men who spend $2,000 to $4,000 on an engagement ring is associated with a 1.3 times greater hazard of divorce than men who spend $500 to $2,000 according to the study.

The same study also shows that if the ceremony costs less than $1,000 there is a decreased likelihood that a couple will end their marriage, compared to a wedding that costs $20,000 or more. Those who have costlier weddings are 1.6 times more likely to get a divorced.
Although the price of a union can determine how long a couple stays together, experts say there are things that can increase the likelihood of a couple withstanding the long term.

Friendship and love appear to not only benefit the longevity of a marriage, but also help the marriage develop over the years. Similar backgrounds or interests and friendship were the primary reasons that couples say they stayed together for so many years.
Having children will also increase the strength of a couple’s bond. A mutual understanding of what their union means also helps a marriage be more satisfying and last long term.
