It’s called the hot water challenge and one person is prompted to take a container of boiling water and throw it onto an unsuspected person. Another version of the challenge is a kid drinking the boiling water.

It takes just seconds for the boiling water to cause third degree burns wherever it touches the body. An eight-year-old, Ki’ari Pope passed away in March after being dared to drink the water.
An Arkansas teen sustained first and second degree burns when his friends showered him with boiling water while he was sleeping. He woke up screaming and crying when he felt the burning on his neck.

The 15-year-old went home and his mom rushed him to the hospital. The teens say they weren’t aware that the water was that hot. His mom is now begging other parents to speak out about these hazards.
