Princess Eugenie is preparing to marry her fiancé Jack Brooksbank in October, and her mother Sarah Ferguson is already talking about how excited she is to be a grandmother. However, it has just been revealed that Eugenie’s children likely will not be given any royal titles.

“Princess Eugenie’s children will not have titles unless the Queen decides to bestow an earldom on Jack Brooksbank,” explained royal expert Carolyn Harris.

Since titles are passed down the male line of families, and Jack has no title, it’s unlikely his children will be given titles themselves. In order to give Eugenie’s children titles, the Queen would have to give Jack an earldom.

Harris pointed out that this could end up happening, as Anthony Armstrong-Jones was granted an earldom by the Queen when he married Princess Margaret in 1960. Their children were then given titles that they inherited from the earl.

However, when Princess Anne married Captain Mark Philips in 1973, he was not given an earldom and their children did not have titles.

“Princess Anne’s children are therefore Mark Philips and Zara Philips,” Harris said. “Assuming that Jack Brooksbank does not receive an earldom, Princess Eugenie’s children will not have titles.”

It’s likely that Eugenie is not fazed at all by the fact that her children won’t have titles.

“Jack and Eugenie are very contemporary, they are very inclusive, and they are all about love, and they want this wedding to be about that—to include everybody and to really absorb the love they have for each other with everybody else,” said her mother, Sarah Ferguson.
