For centuries, left-handed people have been thought of as the “weird ones,” since they make up just ten percent of the population. However, new studies are blowing this narrative out of the water, as they are showing that left-handed people are actually more likely to be geniuses!

IFL Science found that people who are left-handed have a better developed right-brain hemisphere. This is the part of the brain that deals with processing and understanding spatial awareness and mental representations.

Experts say that lefties also have a large corpus callosum, which means that they have enhanced connectivity between the two cranial hemispheres and therefore obtain superior information processing.

IFL Science conducted a study on 2,300 people in which they gave them various levels of math problems. Researchers found that while there was not difference in ability in basic arithmetic, the lefties were much better at problem solving than their right-handed counterparts.

The study also found that extreme right-handers underperformed in all areas of the assessment in comparison to both lefties and moderate right-handers.

Researchers concluded that left-handed people are far better when it comes to complex mathematics and that there is a correlation between hand preference and brain activity. After seeing this study, it should come as no surprise that people like Bill Gates are left handed!
